Yesterday was a big day for Captain America: The First Avenger, at least I think it was. This was the Marvel movie I was the most worried about. The character could be a tough sell and as much as I love Joe Johnston and The Rocketeer, his track record was worrisome. The previews started to change my mind and after seeing the poster (below) and trailer (above) that were released yesterday, I think this may be the Marvel movie to beat. I think it has the possibility to beat Iron Man.
I’ve said it before. Marvel is smartly playing up the patriotic elements to the American audience. I’d bet Tommy Lee Jones has minimal screen time, but he’s up front in the trailers. Showing Steve Rogers as the scrawny hero and “just a kid from Brooklyn” is genius. It’s got me excited and I know I’m not the only one.
Come on July 22. I’m ready to watch Captain America: The First Avenger. Check out that awesome poster, just in time for the 4th of July. And speaking of that poster and the 4th of July. Captain America is sponsoring fireworks displays at many MLB ballparks over the July 4 weekend (Go Braves). They should print up stacks of that poster and hand them out to everyone coming in the ballpark.
