Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter Image Gallery

Here’s a gallery of images from the upcoming Warner Home Video DVD Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter. The images are from the 21 minute animated adaption of the Black Freighter story. Featuring the voice of Gerard Butler (300) , it’s a great addition to the cinematic Watchmen family.

It’s a well animated and jarring short. The Captain in the story has a journey that’s morally similar to that of Ozymandias in Watchmen. Similarly, in the original comics, we learn in issue #12, that Ozymandias has been dreaming this exact story (which readers have seen as the comic book Tales of the Black Freighter).

While you’re looking at the images, listen to the MP3 of the song “Pirate Jenny” by singer Nina Simone. It’s a haunting song that plays over the end credits of the Black Freighter animated feature.

Also included on the same DVD is a 37 minute adaptation of Under the Hood. See our previous post for images and details on that feature.

We’ll have a full review of the DVD posted next week. Until then, enjoy these images.

    Uh…I thought we’d also hear Nina Simone’s song…but, no.

I’ve ordered the Blue-ray of “Tales”, but I was hoping to see the actual Gerard Butler in the special features; I was HOPINg to see him at the microphone reading his lines for the mariner. If he’s not in the special features…I’ll have to be satisfied with just his voice. However, Warners’ always seems to miss the boat when it comes to giving us Gerard fans more…Even with “Rocknrolla”, in the special features, it had Guy Ritchie and Mark Strong doing the background discussion of the film…What a bore!!! Guy kept just saying peoples’ lines before they came on the screen. What a doofus! Why didn’t Warners’ inject some Gerard juice! Now this Black Freighter dvd coluld have been boffo with real-life Gerard could have been added to the special features.
    Thanks, thouh.
