Marvel Superhero Squad Goes MMO

Marvel is really pushing the superhero squad concept and that’s a good thing (but more on that in a minute).

VentureBeat.com is reporting that Marvel and game company Gazillion Entertainment have entered an agreement to create a series of online games. Rather than compete directly with the upcoming DC Universe Online gmae, Marvel and Gazillion will focus their sights on the Superhero Squad. Their first offering will be an online Superhero Squad game. No other details were revealed about the game itself.

This may seem like an odd choice, but I think it’s a very smart move on Marvel’s part. They currently produce a wide range of content for a wide range of ages. Comic, cartoons, movies, and most recently – web content. Speaking as the father of a 5-year old boy, he knows about games and kid sites online.

Make this Superhero Squad game accessible to 5-10 year olds and your creating a whole new audience for Marvel. That’s not a bad thing to do.

Teaming up with his friend (who happened to have the perfect domain name) they revised the former Superheroes-R-Us site into what it is now.
