M.A.N.T.I.S. DVD Date Announced

M.A.N.T.I.S. will finally arrive on DVD on January 27, 2009. This released has been in the planning stages for quite some time.

If you don’t remember, M.A.N.T.I.S. was an early series on FOX in 1994. It starred Carl Lumbly (voice of Martian Manhunter in the JLU cartoon) as Dr. Miles Hawkins, a brilliant scientist who invents the Mechanically Augmented Neuro Transmitter System (M.A.N.T.I.S.). It’s basically an exo-skeleton that gives its wearer super powers. Hawkins uses the suit to fight crime.

This was one of the few superhero related shows to air in the early 90’s and I wonder if it could re-vamped successfully now, since superheroes are currently all the rage. One of the few occasions a show featured an African-American protagonist. This show was very under-rated at the time and has been a guilty pleasure of mine since it first aired.
